Yacht sailing - Eduscapes - South Coast
Yacht sailing - Eduscapes - South Coast
Here is an unforgettable experience, creating many lasting memories, which might inspire you to take this to the next level! You have the chance to go sailing along the South Coast, getting as far as we can, but with the possiblity of visiting local ports along the way. Starting and finishing in Hamble, you'll have the chance of going to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Poole, Lymington, Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and other places as the final plan will be down to you. This is going to be a great opportunity if you want to go sailing, or complete a residential for your DofE, or equally you want to join us on another camp with a difference.
The last time of doing this trip, we visited Weymouth and then came back along the coast visiting other ports.
During your time on the 60ft Yacht, Thermopylae Clipper, you will learn how to helm and be the Skipper, taking charge of the boat, but also helping with all of the various tasks which are required over our 6 day voyage. You'll learn about the tides, wind, weather, and the various controls of the boat, all to help with successful boat operation. You'll also be involved in cooking and the washing up!
Make sure you bring your sleeping bag, and a few warmer layers. You won't need to bring waterproofs as these will be provided for you.
As part of this week, you'll be getting a number of sea miles, but also achieving your RYA Competent Crew certificate under the guidance of our qualified Instructor who will be joining us.
The current cost for this activity is £850.00. However, if we manage to get a full boat, the cost of this price will drop for everyone, so make sure you all get involved and don't delay in signing up. This activity is for children and teenagers aged 12 and above. Any adults who are interested, please contact us.
On the first day (Mon 20th October), we will leave Bedford by minibus in the morning, arriving at our boat, before setting sail in the afternoon to our first destination. We will then arrive back on Saturday 26th October, departing the boat in the morning, and arriving back later on that afternoon.
We are aware that this is for Bedford, in the Private School Half term, but it is the last week of term, before October half term for the state schools. We are happy to provide letters to your school confirming that this is an educational based trip, where they will be doing other learning to support their absence from school, if required.
